I'm 66 and fit but have not yet done the JMT or summited Whitney. I've hiked about half the JMT and to many other places. I am planning to do the JMT this summer, probably starting from Tuolumne Meadows, as starting in Yosemite Valley is such a tough permit to get and I've done that section and don't have a particular attachment to walking the entire JMT as a through hike. I'll be doing 10-12 miles a day roughly, sometimes maybe a bit more, sometimes less depending on the usual considerations. I'd like to go early, in June, in an effort to avoid the fires that have caused me to cancel two back-country trips in the past five years (one aimed at Whitney). That means applying in early Jan. (I'm aware that according to Murphy's Law, my application for a June start may guarantee a heavy snow year; the least I can do for skiers!) Anyway, not so easy to find people my age to do this kind of thing. I'm prepared to do the trail alone and might really love that, but would probably prefer some engaging, low-key company. I really don't care how old you are, but we'd probably have a lot more in common if you're say, over 50. Of course, you, like me, should be fit, prepared, experienced, have your gear and on-trail needs dialed in and have your head at least halfway screwed on. Please, no right-wing folks, as that will likely ensure that neither of us enjoys the trip. I like to talk sometimes and be quiet on trail quite a lot. I'm not out there to hear humans yammer, but people who are reasonably intelligent and have a sense of humor, welcome!
